Crispy Fish Batter

Long John Silver Copycat. Perfect for frying seafood or chicken to golden perfection!

Equipment

  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Large Frying Pan with Deep Sides

INGREDIENTS 

  • 1 cup AP Flour
  • 1 cup Cornstarch
  • 2 tsp. Baking POWDER
  • ¼ tsp. Baking SODA
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 1 tsp. Sugar
  • ¼ tsp. Onion Powder
  • ¼ tsp. Garlic Powder
  • 1 cup Club Soda - cold

INSTRUCTIONS

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine all dry ingredients. Whisk together to blend well.
  • Slowly add the cold club soda to the dry ingredients while constantly whisking to create a smooth batter.
  • Allow the batter sit for a few minutes to thicken slightly.
  • Dip your choice of seafood or chicken into the batter, ensuring each piece is well coated.
  • Fry the coated pieces in hot oil (350° F) until golden brown and crispy, usually about 3-4 minutes per side.
  • Drain on paper towels and serve hot.

Notes

Makes enough batter for approximately 2 lbs. of seafood or chicken.  Excellent on Walleye, Perch, Tilapia, or Shrimp.
