Blooming Onion
This is VERY similar to the Bloomin' Onion®. It's perfect as a side for your favorite wings, veggie, etc. using common pantry ingredients.
Servings 6
Equipment
- 2 Medium Mixing Bowl
- 1 Bowl (for ice bath)
- 1 Flat Plate (for dusting with Flour)
- Air Fryer
INGREDIENTS
- 1 Lg Yellow Onion
- 2½ cups AP Flour
- 4 tsp Old Bay Seasoning
- 2 Lg Eggs - beaten
- ½ cup Milk
INSTRUCTIONS
- Preheat the air fryer to 400º F.
- Slice off the onion stem, then set the onion on the flat side. Carefully peal.
- Cut downward from stem end to within 1" of the root into 12 to16 sections, being careful not to cut it in half.
- Place in ice bath for 10 minutes.
- Flip it over and gently separate sections into separate petals.
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine AP Flour and Seasoning then mix well.
- Liberally sprinkle the flour mixture over the onion, making sure everything is coated well.
- In another bowl, combine the Milk and beaten Eggs. Whisk smooth.
- Transfer floured onion to the Egg mixture bowl and coat well using a spoon to get the mixture into all the crevasses. Sprinkle with additional flour mixture.
- Place in the air fryer basket on parchment paper or foil.
- Fry at 400º F for 8-10 minutes or until crisp.

Make a sling with foil and place under the onion BEFORE you begin coating the onion. It makes it much easier to transfer to the Air Fryer basket later.
