Hamburger Steak with Gravy

Juicy Burgers smothered in a deep, savory Brown Gravy with Onions and Mushrooms. This timeless comfort food is hearty, cozy, and perfect for a satisfying homemade dinner.

Equipment

  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Large Skillet

INGREDIENTS… 

For Burgers

  • 1 ½ lbs Ground Beef - (80/20)
  • ½ cup Plain Breadcrumbs
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 Tbsp. Milk
  • 1 tsp. Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp. Onion Powder
  • ½ tsp. Paprika
  • Salt and Black Pepper - to taste
  • 2 Tbsp. EVOO - for cooking

For Gravy

  • 1 Tbsp. Butter
  • 1 medium Onion - sliced
  • 8 oz Mushrooms - sliced
  • 2 Tbsp. AP Flour
  • 2 cups Beef Broth
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce
  • Salt and Black Pepper - to taste

INSTRUCTIONS

Make Bugers

  • In a large bowl, gently combine Beef, Breadcrumbs, Egg, Milk, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Paprika, Salt, and pepper, folding as little as possible.
  • Shape into Burgers and sear in a skillet over medium-high heat until well browned on both sides. Remove and set aside.

Make Gravy

  • In the same skillet, melt Butter and add Onions and Mushrooms. Sauté until softened and Onions are lightly caramelized.
  • Lightly sprinkle flour on veggies. Stir until absorbed.
  • Slowly pour in Beef Broth, add Worcestershire Sauce, stirring constantly.

Combine

  • Return the Burgers to the skillet, spoon gravy on top, reduce heat, and simmer until the gravy thickens and Burgers reach 155°F. internal temp for Medium doneness.
  • Serve hot along with your favorite sides.

Notes

Suggestions
Serve with Mashed Potatoes, Rice, or Egg noodles.
Sides: Steamed Asparagus, Green Beans, Peas, or Roasted Carrots.
