Beef and Cabbage – Oven

Simple, easy to fix meal with all the flavor you remember from Grandma's kitchen.

Equipment

  • 12” Covered Skillet with Deep Sides
  • Medium Skillet
  • Medium Mixing Bowl
  • 9" x 13" Glass Casserole
  • Aluminum Foil to cover casserole

INGREDIENTS… 

Meat & Veggies

  • 1 lb. Ground Beef
  • 1 sm. Cabbage - shredded
  • 1 Onion - chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic - minced

Sauce

  • 1 cup Sour Cream
  • 1 can Cream Of Mushroom Soup
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 tsp. Paprika
  • Salt and Pepper - to taste

Extras

  • 1 cup Cheddar Cheese - shredded
  • 1 Tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 1 cup cooked Rice - optional
  • Breadcrumbs - optional

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Preheat oven to 350° F. and grease a baking dish.
  • In a skillet, sauté the Onions in Oil until soft. Then add Garlic and continue cooking until it's fragrant.
  • Add Beef, cook until browned, drain fat.
  • Stir in Worcestershire, Paprika, Salt, Pepper, and Cabbage. Cook until Cabbage is slightly softened.
  • Mix Sour Cream and Mushroom Soup in a bowl.
  • Add cooked Rice to Beef mixture (Optional).
  • Layer half Beef mix in a baking dish, add half sauce. Repeat layers.
  • Top with Cheese (and Breadcrumbs if using).
  • Cover with foil and bake 25 minutes, then uncover and bake 15 to 20 minutes until golden.
  • Allow to rest 5 minutes, then serve.

Notes

Add Chili Flakes for a little heat.
Substitute Turkey for lighter fare.
Freezes well.
