Salisbury Steak with Gravy

This Salisbury Steak is true classic comfort food – juicy and tender, simmered in a deep, glossy brown gravy.

  • Large Skillet

INGREDIENTS 

Salisbury Steaks

  • lb Ground Beef - 80/20
  • ½ cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 Lg. Egg
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire Cauce
  • 1 tsp. Onion Powder
  • 1 tsp. Garlic Powder
  • Salt & Black Pepper - to taste
  • 1 Tbsp. EVOO

Rich Brown Gravy

  • 2 Tbsp. Butter or pan drippings
  • 1 Lg. Onion - thinly sliced
  • 2 Tbsp. AP Flour
  • 2 cups Beef Broth
  • Black Pepper - to taste
  • Salt - to taste

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Combine Ground Beef, Breadcrumbs, Egg, Worcestershire Sauce, Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Salt, and Pepper. Mix gently and form 4 oval patties.
  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear patties until browned on both sides. Remove and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add Butter if needed. Add Onions and cook until soft and lightly caramelized.
  • Sprinkle flour over onions and stir for 1 minute. Slowly whisk in Beef Broth, scraping up browned bits. Simmer low & slow.
  • Return Patties to the skillet. Cover and simmer 15–20 minutes until Steaks are tender and gravy thick and glossy.
  • Serve hot, spooning Gravy over the Steaks.

Notes

Tips & Substitutions
Add sliced Mushrooms for a classic variation.
Serve with Mashed Potatoes or over Rice or Egg Noodles
Be generous with Gravy.  Possibly make two batches.
